Research on the causes and suppression methods of abnormalcoupling potential in post-loaded Hall thrusters

  • Abnormal phenomena such as excessive shell potential and large oscillation occurred in the operation of the post-loaded Hall thruster. Based on the report of this anomaly, this paper starts from the two common troubleshooting directions of magnetic field and magnetic pole surface, and first verifies the correlation between the abnormal ignition phenomenon and magnetic field extrapolation through experimental methods, and proposes the "neutralization attenuation" phenomenon that causes the increase in the potential of the thruster shell; Then, by installing insulation measures on the magnetic pole surface of the thruster, it was determined that the cause of the abnormal increase in the shell potential was ion bombardment on the magnetic pole surface of the thruster, and a method to suppress the abnormal phenomenon was obtained by installing insulation measures on the magnetic pole surface of the thruster to block the "neutralization attenuation" process.
