Abstract
The Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR) divertor development system aims to finalize the engineering design of the water-cooled divertor through optimizing the preliminary design and performing research and development for prototype fabrication. As a key milestone, the world’s largest full-scale flat-type divertor module prototype has been successfully fabricated with advanced materials. Its overall dimensions are approximately 5.6 m (radial)×0.72 m (toroidal)×3.7 m (vertical), with certain straight and curved target units exceeding 1.4 m in length. Achievements in joining technology were critical to the fabrication. Two material joining routes have been shown to be feasible: a single-step hot isostatic pressing process and a two-step process involving explosive welding followed by brazing. The heat flux capacity at the strike point area of targets sustained a steady-state heat flux of 20 MW/m2 by high heat flux testing.
